AI SEO for medical and dental practices:
be the one the patient is told to call.
Patients ask AI the questions they are embarrassed to ask a receptionist: does this hurt, what does it cost, will insurance cover it, who near me does it without a CPAP. The practice whose site answers those questions in machine-readable form is the one the answer names. We have installed this on a dental sleep practice (60 to 97) and a general dental practice (57 to 92), both in September 2026.

Why AI SEO matters for medical and dental practices
Health is the category Google calls "your money or your life," the one where its quality guidelines ask hardest for experience, expertise, authority and trust. AI answers inherit that caution: Pew found government sites made up 6 percent of the sources linked in AI summaries versus 2 percent in ordinary results (Pew Research Center, "Google users are less likely to click on links when an AI summary appears" (Jul 2025)). The engines lean toward sources that show credentials. A practice site that names its providers, their boards, the insurance it accepts and its real hours is exactly what that caution rewards.
The gap is wide. Across the 79 Triad businesses we scanned, 94 percent had no FAQ markup and 47 percent no local business schema (DiamondBack Advertising, "The State of AI Search in the Piedmont Triad" (79 local businesses, Aug 2026)). Medical practices were no better than average, and the ones we have since worked on started at 57 and 60.
What people actually ask
Real question shapes we have heard, seen in our clients' analytics, or used in scans for medical and dental practices. Ask them yourself in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode and write down who gets named; that is the scoreboard. The prompt kit builds them for your own business and city.
- Which dentists near me take Delta Dental and see new patients this week?
- Is there a sleep apnea treatment without a CPAP machine near Wilkesboro, NC?
- How much does a dental implant cost in North Carolina?
- What is the difference between a family doctor and an internist?
- Which pediatric dentists in Greensboro are good with anxious kids?
- Tell me about [practice name].
The specific signals
Schema types that exist
Dentist, Physician, MedicalClinic or MedicalBusiness sitewide (all real schema.org types), a Service or MedicalProcedure node per treatment page, and Person for each provider with credentials.
Treatment pages that answer
One page per treatment, opening with the question a patient asks: what it is, whether it hurts, what it costs or how insurance works, how long it takes. Sleep, implants, Invisalign and cosmetic pages each get their own.
Credentials in text
Board certifications, dental and medical school, hospital affiliations, years, memberships. In words, on the provider page, not in a badge image.
Insurance and hours, everywhere
Accepted plans as a list a machine can read. Hours that match the Business Profile exactly; a practice we worked with had two different sets, and the schema had to pick one.
Reviews the crawler can read
Google reviews visible in the HTML with a real aggregateRating. Reply to them. Never include patient details in a reply.
The HIPAA and claims line
No patient information in testimonials or replies without written authorization. No outcome claims a licensing board would not accept. We write to that standard and route anything borderline back to the practice.
The install for medical and dental practices, step by step
The same four layers as every install (the complete guide explains them), in the order that works for this vertical:
- Open robots.txt and the firewall to the search agents; check the speed plugin is not hiding page text.
- Install the sitewide Dentist, Physician or MedicalClinic block with address, phone, hours, insurance list and sameAs.
- Add Service or MedicalProcedure schema and a real FAQ with FAQPage markup to each treatment page.
- Write provider pages with credentials in text and Person schema.
- Pull the real Google rating into the page and mark it up; resolve any hours conflict with the Business Profile first.
- Fix NAP across the site, Business Profile, Healthgrades, Zocdoc and insurer directories.
- Publish llms.txt and a robots.txt that allows the search agents by name.
- Ask the engines the six prompts above, record who is named, rescan, and repeat quarterly.
What we have measured
Two practice installs in September 2026, both measured before and after with the same 20-point scan: a dental sleep medicine practice went from 60 to 97 in two weeks (case study), and a general dental practice from 57 to 92 (DiamondBack Advertising, the public results ledger). Separately, an IV therapy clinic on our SEO program recorded its best month on the books the month after its AI SEO install, with organic sessions up 15 percent month over month and Business Profile website clicks at a record 57. That is a correlation we report honestly, not a causal claim.
Scores are DiamondBack's 20-point technical scan of what AI systems can read on a site, run before and after with the same engine. They measure readability, not citation frequency.
Straight answers for medical and dental practices
Do patients really ask AI which dentist to see?
Yes, and increasingly for the questions they will not ask a front desk: cost, pain, insurance, alternatives. OpenAI reported more than 900 million weekly ChatGPT users in February 2026. When the question is about care, the answer often ends with named practices.
What schema should a dental or medical practice use?
Dentist, Physician, MedicalClinic or MedicalBusiness sitewide (all real schema.org types), a Service or MedicalProcedure node per treatment page, Person for each provider with credentials, FAQPage on genuine FAQs, and aggregateRating only where reviews are visible.
Is AI SEO a HIPAA risk?
Not if it is done properly. The install touches business information, services, credentials and public reviews. It never touches patient data, and we never put patient details into testimonials, replies or markup without written authorization.
Can we claim outcomes on our pages?
Only what your licensing board and the FTC would accept as substantiated. AI engines quote pages verbatim, so a claim you would not put on a billboard should not be on the page either.
How did the two practice installs go?
A dental sleep medicine practice went from 60 to 97 out of 100 in two weeks in September 2026. A general dental practice went from 57 to 92 the same month. Both were measured by the same scan before and after.
We use a website vendor built for dentists. Can this be installed?
Usually. Most practice platforms allow custom code and robots.txt edits; a few do not. The free scan tells us which, and we say so before you spend anything.
See what AI says about youbefore your competitor does.
The free scan runs the twenty checks on your site and asks the engines about your market. Fifteen minutes, your score out of 100, the report is yours either way.
